With the added bonus that turns (and also missions) are pretty short and very suitable to playing in short bursts.Įven achievements are very well done. Every turn is like a puzzle game, several objectives to achieve and if you cannot do them all you have to make a choice of what to save and what not, and everything has its consequences. Many mistakes made this way.Ī deceptively simple strategic game but surprisingly deep. Some UI choices I would change: attack buttons should be toggle select on/off. Some are more damage heavy or defensive etc. Very replayable with random procedurely developed levels in this roguelite turn based strategy game.ĭifferent unlockable mechs that cause you to play and react differently on the field. points/level may had some good passive abilities.

Losing any of your mechs is okay but you’ll lose them for the remainder of that match and you will permanently lose the pilot who based on his battle exp. So you find yourself making many utilitarian decisions. And sometimes it may be wise to attack your own characters or even take out your own power grid to save more threats around the map. But your attacks do inflict friendly fire. Your moves will always do guaranteed damage unlike xcom. Ultimately you must survive 5 or so rounds where your predominantly protecting not only your power grid but maybe some other objective on the map. You have to play smart and keep your power grid safe which enemy AI prioritize attacking over you. Fall into an environmental hazard or bump into another enemy doing damage or causing the enemies to fight each other. Which may make it miss it projected attack. Each attack cause an enemy to fly back a space in the direction it was hit.

And lobbed shot that go over enemies and obstacles. So you have 3 mechs that have different abilities. In this game you see the enemies projected attacks and your job is to prevent what is threatened. The bonus objective may be kill so many, sustain so little damage, or don’t kill a particular target. Completing bonus objectives in each map may earn you an extra rep. There are 4 maps with 5 rounds in each that you can choose from. So spending wisely is smart when thinking of the battle to come as the difficulty ramps up on further maps.
INTO THE BREACH SWITCH GAMEPLAY UPGRADE
But this will come at the cost of upgrading to new abilities, passive abilities, and weapon power ups, and upgrade tokens to use in any of the aforementioned skill trees. Points earned on levels from completing bonus objectives to recover your power grid infrastructure. You cannot recover your power grid hit points throughout a match only if you beat a island (which consists of like 5 matches) so you get an opportunity to spend rep. Too many hits on any given match can be detrimental to your chances to win overall in that timeline. The catch in the game is your power infrastructure (maybe 8 or so hit points) follows you through your entire run. Story is pretty neat and fits the roguelite dynamic where you are a time traveling pilot of a mech and must save this storylines future from big creatures that arises from underground destroy our infrastructure. No redos (well one round per match out of 5 total rounds). Stakes are definitely high when you know one bad round can send your game progress back 3-5 hours. Imagine xcom meets rogue lite with random generated bite sized maps which are great for on the go. Into the Breach (pc/switch) Review: 95/100
